52 Project: Unique Collars

This was my week to select the assignment for the 52 Project – the 52 Project consists of a group of international pet photographers who are all members of the Beautiful Beasties network that post images each Friday on their blog – and I selected the theme of Unique Collars…super-fancy, crafted at home, sports-themed, seasonal, whatever you like.

I purchased the bow tie collar from Learned Stitchworks Designer Collars and Accessories (available on Etsy).  They have a great assortment of colorful collars.  I raided my dad’s wardrobe for the tie.  I love the little llama stitched on the front.

Continue on and visit the next photographer in the blog circle, Denver Pet Photographer, StinkDog Photos, and check out her unique collar interpretation.  Have a great weekend!

52 Project: Group

After a few busy weeks, I’m back participating in the 52 Project.  This project is part of a group of international pet photographers in the Beautiful Beasties network, which post a theme each Friday as part of a blog circle.  This week’s assignment is Group.  Photos of 2 or more pets together.  Here are photos of my group at home.

52 Project: Recreate or Imitate

I’d like to thank Deana Hurt of StinkDog Photos in Denver, Colorado for choosing this week’s Beautiful Beasties 52 project theme – recreate or imitate a piece of art.  The assignment TOTALLY pushed me to learn new post-production techniques.  Fun, fun, fun!

In my most recent visits to the flea market, I’ve noticed a few vendors selling animal postage stamps from various parts of the world.   Many will never end up on display at a museum, but I’d still consider them little pieces of art.  Wouldn’t you?

A quick online search directed me to a number of sites that highlight animal postage stamps (ebay as well!).  For this week’s assignment, I am referencing a stamp from the Republic of Buriatia (which is located in southern Siberia) that was distributed in 2001 and featured a German Shorthaired Pointer (source: animalstamps.com).  My sister’s dog, Meekah, is part GSP and was my model recreating the postage stamp pictured above.

Continue with the blog circle and visit Dogfish Pet Photography in Calgary, Alberta and check out the next recreation/imitation project.  All the best!

Deanna Hurt - That’s awesome! I had no idea they had animal postage stamps. Very cool. Nice job.

September 13, 2013 - 1:34 pm

Lina - good job! look almost exactly the same!

September 13, 2013 - 7:24 pm

Nicole - An exact match! LOVE this!

52 Project: Word

The theme for the 52 international photography project this week is Word.   I’ve collected a number of literary and fun quotes about pets over the years and jumped for joy at the opportunity of using one with this week’s assignment.

Note: Immediately after posing for the photo, Xavi and Meekah darted off for a splash in the water fountain.  Who can blame them? 🙂   Next up is Kathryn Schauer Photography in Connecticut.  Have a great weekend!

Tara Lynn - This is one of my favorite quotes that I recently used for my facebook cover photo! I love your graphic design work here. I love designing, but often struggle finding the right font and layout. Bravo!

September 6, 2013 - 10:09 am

Iska - I love how you’ve incorporated the quote into the picture. Nicely done.

52 Project: Nighttime

This week’s Beautiful Beasties 52 Project theme is Nighttime.  I opted for a photo of  Xavi in the backyard illuminated by three light sources – the lamps that face the side back corner of the house and his NiteIze collar.  This was a great assignment because I don’t often take nighttime photos – really enjoyed the challenge. Next up on the blog circle is Calgary, Alberta pet photographer, Dogfish Pet Photography.  Have a great Labor Day weekend to those in the States.
