52 Project: The Rule of Thirds

The “Rule of Thirds” is taught to all photographers in their beginning composition classes.   In its simplicity, imagine dividing a photograph into 9 equal parts  – three rows of three equal columns – think, tic tac toe grid.   Align your subject along any one of the points where the lines intersect.  The subject is now positioned 1/3rd of the way in the photograph and not smack in the middle.  To the viewer, the image appears  more pleasing and natural to the eye.

In my examples, you’ll notice Reyse positioned to the left of the lake and then placed to the right of the photograph looking out towards the sand. (P.S. She was especially happy this day because mom bought her a new orange collar. 🙂 )
